What is consignment?

Consignment means that we will sell your items for you. We don’t own your items. We have an agreement (contract) to sell your items and pay you a percentage of selling price after your items sell. When you consign with us with are partners. We will price your items as high as possible and still make them a marketable item. You will be able to check your account online at any time.

(Wikipedia definition) Consignment is the act of consigning, the act of giving over to another person or agent’s charge, custody or care any material or goods but retaining legal ownership until the material or goods are sold. That may be done for the purpose of shipping the goods, transferring the goods to auction or intending the goods to be placed on sale in a store (a consignment store).

The verb “consign” means “to send” and therefore the noun “consignment” means “sending goods to another person”. In the case of “retail consignment” or “sales consignment” (often just referred to as a “consignment”), goods are sent to the agent for the purpose of sale. The ownership of these goods remains with the sender. The agent sells the goods on behalf of the sender according to instructions. The sender of goods is known as the “consignor” and the agent entrusted with the custody and care of the goods is known as the “consignee“.

Do you offer cash for items?

Yes, you can make an appointment for us to go through your items and make you a cash offer.

How do I get paid?

You can stop in and collect money at any time (we love paying our consignors)! If you have $75 or more in your account we will print you a check the first week of each month and hold that check for you to pick up. After 30 days, if you have not picked up your check, we will mail it to you.

What items will make me the most money?

Can I consign if I don’t live near Selective Seconds?

Absolutely. We have consignors that mail their items to us.

Just print out a consignment agreement [link coming sooon], sign if you accept the terms, and include with your items. Please understand that we do not return any items that we are unable to use. Charity receipts are available upon request. Mail those items to us at:

Why can’t I pick up my unsold items (priced $25 or less) after the consignment period ends?

Due to the high volume of inventory we process, we do not offer pickups on items priced $25 or less. We feel that we have exhausted all efforts to sell your items during your 9 weeks (changed to nice hangers, organized by size and category, advertised, promoted with sales including 25% off and 50% off and more). At the end of the consignment period it is not cost-effective for us to put any more labor and costs into those items. We are happy to provide you with a charity receipt for tax purposes upon request.

If you have consigned something that is priced over $25 that does not sell and you want returned, please call us the last week of your consignment period and let us know. We will then pull that item and hold for you to pick up.

Do you offer home pick up service?

Yes we do. We understand you are busy and time is precious. If you would like more information about this service, please complete the “Request for Pick Up Service” form. After receipt and review, someone will contact you to determine if your items might be a good fit for our shop.  If so, we will schedule a time for our trained associate to meet with you.
